Jim Morrison (1943 - 1971)

"You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you :
'Girl, we couldn't get much higher.'
Come on baby, light my fire.
Come on baby, light my fire.
Try to set the night on fire."

Crash! Bang! Wallow?

LOGOrama

The Dark Side of the Lens

"I never set out to become anything in particular, only to live creatively and push the scope of my experience for adventure and for passion [...] If I only scrape a living, at least it’s a living where I’m scraping... If there’s no future in it, this is a present worth remembering."

Tha Barbara Baekeland Case

Her murder took place at her London home, where her son, Antony stabbed her with a kitchen knife. Antony was 25 at the time. She died almost instantly.

Most disturbing of all, was how Antony’s act of matricide was preceded by another crime equally as shocking – Barbara Baekeland’s sexual seduction of her own son.

Baekeland was the wife of Brooks Baekeland, grandson of Leo Baekeland, founder of Bakelite plastic. Before meeting Brooks Baekeland, Barbara was a model and would-be Hollywood starlet. During their marriage Barbara was known for her unstable personality, rude outbursts and bouts of severe depression.

She led a lifestyle of drinking and risqué sexual encounters which in time, lead to her husband Brooks leaving her for a younger woman. A divorce soon followed and in a bout with severe depression, Barbara made a failed attempted at suicide.

Barbara’s relationship with her son Antony, who was homosexual and had displayed signs of schizophrenia all his life, grew bizzare. There were no boundaries or lines of privacy between them. They shared everything and every experience, developing an intense co-dependence that would ultimately resulted in incest.

Barbara tried to “cure” her son by hiring willing girls to take him to bed, when this failed she decided to seduce Antony herself. In an attempt to cure Antony of his homosexuality, Barbara coerced him into having sex with her.

Barbara and Antony’s mother-son relationship began to worry those around them. Antony’s erratic behavior was cause for concern, and over the years the two had several threatening arguments involving knives.

After Barbara’s murder, Antony was institutionalized at Broadmoor Hospital and was released on July 21, 1980. He relocated to New York City, where he lived with his grandmother for a short time until July 27, 1980 when he stabbed her as well. She survived and Antony was sent to Rikers Island, where he was found suffocated to death with a plastic bag on March 20, 1981.

Barbara Baekeland’s story was adapted for the screen in a film currently in release titled “Savage Grace”. Julianne Moore stars as Baekeland.

[Just after the beginning]
''Gandhi said that whatever you do in life will be insignificant. But it's very important that you do it. I tend to agree with the first part.''

[Somewhere in the middle]
''You once told me, our fingerprints don't fade from the lives we touch. Is that true for everybody, or is it just poetic bullshit?''

[Just before the end]
''Whatever you do in life will be insignificant. But it's very important that you do it. Like when someone comes into your life and half of you says: "You're nowhere near ready". And the other half says: "Make her yours forever". Michael*, that's what I would say if I knew you could hear me: "I do know. I love you. God, I miss you, and I forgive you.''

*Michael is the brother of the starring actor (21), who commited suicide at the age of 22. That's the age that Mozart had 37 symphonies and Gandhi 3 kids.

Into the Wild (Sean Penn - 2007)

Plot
Into the Wild recounts the life of Christopher McCandless (12 February 1968 – 18 August 1992), an actual student-athlete at Emory University, as told by his sympathetic sister. In response to his materialistic, manipulative, and domineering parents, McCandless destroys all of his credit cards and identification documents, donates $24,000 (nearly his entire savings) to Oxfam, and sets out on a crosscountry drive in his well-used but reliable economy car towards his ultimate goal: to live alone and off the land in Alaska. Along the way, leaves his automobile in the course of a flash flood, to hitchhike his way there after burning the remainder of his dwindling cash supply. Taking an unintentionally circuitous route, he encounters many unconventional individuals on his itinerary as he purposefully trudges onward to his final destination, arriving in the wilds of Alaska nearly two years after his initial departure. He starts living in a "Magic Bus" serving as a shelter for people walking in the area (though in the film there is nobody else). Resourceful, McCandless finds joy in living off the land, and begins to write a book of his adventures. Unfortunately, as the spring thaw arrives, he is cut off from civilization by waterways. As his food supply lessens, he resorts to eating plants. Although he consults a brought-along book about the edibility of plants, he confuses an edible and a poisonous kind, which weakens him. While he survives the poison, he is unable to find animals to hunt and he slowly starves to death. As he dies, he continues to write, detailing his painful demise as a dramatic denouement to his autobiography.

  • During his amazing journey he claimed : '' You don't need human relationships to be happy, God has placed it all around us. ''
  • But a couple hours before his tragic death into the 'Magic Bus', somewhere in Alaska, he wrote in his notebook : ''Happiness is real when shared.''

Waking Life (Richard Linklater - 2001)

Boat Car Guy: I feel like my transport should be an extension of my personality. And this is like my little window to the world... and every minute's a different show. I may not understand it. I may not even necessarily agree with it. But I'll tell you what I've accepted: just sort of glide along. You want to keep things on an even key, this is what I'm saying. You want to go with the flow. The sea refuses no river. The idea is to remain in a state of constant departure while always arriving. It saves on introductions and goodbyes. The ride does not require explanation - just occupance. That's where you guys come in. It's like you come onto this planet with a crayon box. Now you may get the 8 pack, you may get the 16 pack but it's all in what you do with the crayons - the colors - that you're given. Don't worry about coloring within the lines or coloring outside the lines - I say color outside the lines, you know what I mean? Color all over the page; don't box me in! We're in motion to the ocean. We are not land locked, I'll tell you that.

Guy Forsyth:

  • The trick is to combine your waking rational abilities with the infinite possibilities of your dreams. Because, if you can do that, you can do anything.

  • The worst mistake that you can make is to think you're alive when really you're asleep in life's waiting room.

  • Did you ever have a job that you hated and worked real hard at? A long, hard day of work. Finally you get to go home, get in bed, close your eyes and immediately you wake up and realize... that the whole day at work had been a dream. It's bad enough that you sell your waking life for minimum wage, but now they get your dreams for free.

Man with the Long Hair: They say that dreams are only real as long as they last. Couldn't you say the same thing about life?

Soap Opera Woman: Excuse me.(Όταν ο Wiley σκόνταψε πάνω της καθώς κατέβαινε τις σκάλες του metro και εκείνη τις ανέβαινε)
Wiley: Excuse me.
Soap Opera Woman: Hey. Could we do that again? I know we haven't met, but I don't want to be an ant. You know? I mean, it's like we go through life with our antennas bouncing off one another, continously on ant autopilot, with nothing really human required of us. Stop. Go. Walk here. Drive there. All action basically for survival. All communication simply to keep this ant colony buzzing along in an efficient, polite manner. "Here's your change." "Paper or plastic?' "Credit or debit?" "You want ketchup with that?" I don't want a straw. I want real human moments. I want to see you. I want you to see me. I don't want to give that up. I don't want to be ant, you know?

Louis Mackey:

laziness?''

The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan - 2008)

The Joker / The Agent of Chaos who finds no reason to be .. Serious!

[After being told he's crazy] I'm not. No, I'm not.

Look at me…LOOK AT ME!

And here we…go.

The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules. And tonight, you're gonna break your one rule.

[Regarding him as a planner] I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it! You know…I just do things.

You know the thing about chaos? It's fair.

Good evening, ladies and gentle men…we are tonight's entertainment! [grabs a piece of shrimp and eats it, then talks with his mouth full] I only have one question: Where is Harvey Dent? [no one answers; he walks over to a woman, takes her glass and tosses out her champagne, then mimes drinking anyway and stalks towards the other guests] Do you know where Harvey is? Do you know who he is? [grabs a man by the face] Do you know where I can find Harvey? I need to talk to him about something; just something little, huh? [turning his head side to side from the top and receives no answer and continues on] No. [to another man as he eats food from the man's plate] You know, I'll settle for his loved ones.

[To a man that speaks out against him] You know, you remind me of my father. I hated my father.

[To Rachel] Well, hello beautiful. [sloppily slicks his hair back with a knife] You must be Harvey's squeeze. [begins to circle her] And you are beautiful. [stops circling and pretends to be concerned] Oh, you look nervous. [holds the knife up] Is it the scars? You wanna know how I got 'em? [grabs her chin as she continuously tries to look away] Come 'ere, look at me. So I had a wife, she was beautiful…like you, who tells me I worry too much, who tells me I oughta smile more, who gambles and gets in deep with the sharks…[she squirms, and he pulls her back] Hey. One day they carve her face. And we have no money for surgeries. She can't take it. I just want to see her smile again. Hm? I just wanted to let her know that I don't care about the scars. So I stick a razor in my mouth and do this…to myself. [mimes moving a razor around his mouth] And you know what? She can't stand the sight of me! She leaves! Now, I see the funny side. Now, I'm always smiling!

[Pulls out a Joker playing card] Here's…my card.

I believe…whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you…stranger.

You see, I'm a guy of simple taste. I enjoy dynamite, and gunpowder, and gasoline! And do you know what they all have in common? They're cheap. [lights his half of the mob's money on fire]

I'm only burning my half! [after he lights his half of the mob's money on fire]

How about a magic trick? [slams a pencil into the table standing upright] I'm gonna make this pencil disappear. [Gambol's henchman tries to attack him; in one swift motion he slams the man's head into the pencil, forcing the entire pencil through his eye socket; the man falls over dead] Taa-daa! It's…ah, it's gone.

It's all part of the plan.

Let's put a smile on that face!

I like this job! I like it!

It's a funny world we live in. (TV Spot)

[Seeing Batman on the Batpod] Now there's a Batman. [Batman speeds toward him] Ooh, you wanna play? Come on. Come on.

[after Batman flips the truck and speeds towards the Joker who walks towards him shooting cars in the way] Come on. I want you to do it. I want you to do it. Hit me. Hit me! I want you to hit me! Come on. Do it! Hit me!
Speaking out in a video he sent to Gotham News] See, this is how crazy Batman has made Gotham. You want order in Gotham? Batman must take off his mask and turn himself in. Oh, and every day that he doesn't, people will die. Starting tonight. I'm a man of my word.
Now, our operation is small, but [grabs a pool stick] there's a lot of potential for aggressive expansion. So, which of our fine gentlemen would like to join our team? Oh! There's only one spot open right now, so we're gonna have tryouts. [breaks the stick in two, throws the pointy end on the floor in between three of Gambol's henchmen] Hm…make it fast.
This city deserves a better class of criminal, and I'm gonna give it to them.

[To a policeman] Do you want to know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can't savor all of the…little…emotions. You see, in their…last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way…I knew your friends better than you ever did. [pause] Would you like to know which of them were cowards?

When the chips are down, these, uh…civilized people, they'll eat each other.

Let's wind the clock back a year. These cops and lawyers wouldn't dare cross any of you. I mean…what happened? Did your–did your balls drop off? Hm?
[To the mobsters whose money he stole] Oh, and by the way, the suit? It wasn't cheap. You oughta know, you bought it.

[Holding a knife in Gambol's mouth] Wanna know how I got these scars? My father was…a drinker, and a fiend. One night he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself; he doesn't like that. Not…one…bit. So, me watching–he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it. He turns to me, and says…"WHY SO SERIOUS?" He comes at me with the knife, "WHY SO SERIOUS?!" He sticks the blade in my mouth, "Let's put a smile on that face!" And…[turns to look at one of Gambol's henchman who looks terrified, and then says]…WHY SO SERIOUS?

[After his truck has crashed] Harvey, Harvey, Harvey Dent. [pushes the unconscious (or dead) driver out of the way] Excuse me, I wanna drive. [takes the wheel]

[Is about to unmask the unconscious Batman but suddenly gets a gun pointed at his head] Arrrgh! Could you please just give me a minute?

There's no going back. You've changed things…forever.

[Tugging on a string connected to grenades] Let's not blow this out of proportion.
This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.
The mob has plans. The cops have plans. Gordon's got plans. They're schemers.
Freak? Why don't we cut you up into little pieces and feed you to your pooches, hmm? And then we'll see how loyal a hungry dog really is! It's not about money, it's about sending a message. Everything burns!

I just want my phone call.

I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve.

[Hanging upside down over the edge of a building]
Madness, as you know, is like gravity…all it takes is a little push!

If you're good at something, never do it for free.

[After Batman asks Joker why he wants to kill him] I don't want to kill you. What would I do without you? Go back to ripping off mob dealers? No…no, no. No, you…complete me.
Introduce a little anarchy…upset the established order…and everything becomes chaos. I'm an agent of chaos.

[To Batman while hanging upside down from a building] You won't kill me because of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness. And I won't kill you because…you're just too much fun! I think you and I are destined to do this forever.

[To Batman hanging upside down from a building] Did you really think that I would risk the battle for Gotham's soul in a fist fight with you?! When dealing with this city, you need an ace in the hole. Mine's Harvey.

You know what I noticed? Nobody panics when things go "according to plan"…even if the plan is horrifying. If tomorrow I told the press that, like, a gang-banger will get shot, or a truck load of soldiers will be blown up, nobody panics, because it's all part of the plan. But when I say that one little old mayor will die…[voice rises hysterically] well, then everyone loses their minds!

[Interrupting a news cast in which Coleman Reese is trying to announce Batman's identity] I had a vision of a world without Batman. The mob ground out their little profit, and the police tried to shut them down one block at a time. And it was so…boring. I've had a change of heart. I don't want Mr. Reese spoiling everything, but why should I have all the fun? Let's give someone else a chance. If Coleman Reese isn't dead in sixty minutes, then I blow up a hospital. [hangs up the phone]

[After Batman has slammed his head into a table] Never start with the head. The victim gets all fuzzy. He can't feel the next–[Batman pounds the Joker's hand and he comically waits to register the pain]

See? ?
